The best-placed square mile in Midtown
Very little in central Manhattan is genuinely equidistant from the theatres, Grand Central and Fifth Avenue, but this is. It means you can walk to a matinee, walk back for a rest, and still reach dinner on the East Side without the subway.
Club Row and the literary blocks
West 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth is known as Club Row for its private clubs, and it holds two of the most historic small hotels in the city. These blocks are noticeably quieter at night than anything three streets west, which is the whole argument for staying here.
Bryant Park itself, especially in winter
The park has free public seating, a reading room and, from late October to early January, the Winter Village market and free ice rink. For UK travellers on a Christmas trip, staying beside it is a genuine advantage over Times Square.

Fast answers
Questions UK travellers ask about Midtown / Bryant Park.
Is Bryant Park better than Times Square?
For most travellers who are not seeing several shows, yes. You keep the walking access and lose the noise and crowds, usually for a similar or slightly higher rate.
Is the Winter Village worth planning around?
It is free to enter and free to skate if you bring your own skates, and it runs from late October into early January. If you are visiting for Christmas, a hotel on these blocks puts it outside your door.
