New York Hotel Destination Fees: Which Hotels List One

A destination fee is a daily charge a hotel adds on top of the room rate and taxes. Of the 136 hotels we read on Booking.com, 26 mentioned one in their listing. A hotel that does not mention a fee may still add one, so always check the price breakdown. This is a research list, not a guarantee.

What a destination fee is

It is a property charge, not a government tax. Hotels usually describe it as covering things such as Wi-Fi, fitness access or a food and drink credit. Whether you use them or not, the fee is often mandatory. Our taxes and fees guide explains how it fits with taxes.

How to find the real total

On the booking page, open the price breakdown and look for a line for fees paid at the property. Some hotels collect the fee when you arrive rather than at booking, so it can be missing from the headline total. Compare hotels on the final total, not the room rate.

Fast answers

Questions UK travellers ask.

Which New York hotels have no destination fee?

We cannot guarantee that any hotel has none. Hotels not on this list did not mention a fee on their Booking.com listing for our sample stay, but you should still check the price breakdown. The Hotel Beacon, for example, listed no fee but did list a refundable US$20 damage deposit.

Is a destination fee the same as a tax?

No. It is a hotel's own charge. Taxes are set by the state and city. See our taxes and fees guide for the difference.
