Where to Stay in Hudson Yards

Hudson Yards is the development built over the rail yards on the far west side, opened from 2019. It is the newest neighbourhood in Manhattan and feels like it: clean, corporate, quiet after dark and a genuine distance from the rest of the city.

Space you cannot buy elsewhere

Because everything here was built recently and at scale, the hotel rooms are among the largest in Manhattan. If a cramped room would spoil the trip, this is one of the few places where you can solve that without paying Central Park South rates.

What is actually here

The Shops at Hudson Yards, the Vessel, the Shed arts centre and the northern end of the High Line, plus Edge, the outdoor sky deck. It is a real destination for an afternoon, but it is not a neighbourhood with a life of its own in the evening.

The distance problem

The 7 train from 34 St-Hudson Yards reaches Times Square in a few minutes, so it is well connected in one direction. Everything else, including downtown and the Upper East Side, involves changing lines. On a short first trip that adds up.

Who it suits

Getting around

Fast answers

Questions UK travellers ask about Hudson Yards.

Is Hudson Yards too far out?

It is still Manhattan and the 7 train is quick, but it is a corner of the island rather than a central base. It suits longer stays and travellers who value space more than being in the middle of everything.

Is there anything to do there in the evening?

Not a great deal beyond the hotel bars and the restaurants in the shopping centre. Most people head east or south for dinner, which is a subway ride or a fifteen-minute walk.
