Editorial take
Who should book The Standard, East Village?
If this is your first New York trip, shortlist The Standard, East Village for a practical reason: Design, couples, downtown nightlife, views. The name, star rating and lobby photos matter, but the real test is whether the location helps your days feel easier.
It is less compelling if you want value, family rooms or midtown convenience. Before booking from the UK, compare the final price after taxes and property fees, check the exact room setup and make sure your airport arrival route is not needlessly awkward.

Review questions
What travellers keep asking.
Is this the old Cooper Square Hotel?
Yes. The tower opened in December 2008 as the Cooper Square Hotel and later became The Standard, East Village. Reviews under the earlier name refer to the same building.
How does it compare with The Standard, High Line?
Same group, very different feel. The High Line property is larger and built around its Meatpacking location and views; this one is slimmer, quieter and better placed for the East Village and NoHo.
